Lifesaver of the Year Contest
The National Drowning Prevention Alliance and USA Swimming Foundation national competition in search of the 2011 Lifesaver of the Year has been extended – nominations will now be accepted through December 16.
The competition rules are simple. Nominators will go to www.facebook.com/NationalDrowningPreventionAlliance and click the “LifeSaver of the Year” contest tab. Once there, a photo and essay about the nominee may be uploaded. The essay should demonstrate how the nominee has impacted someone’s life or the lives of others in a water-related capacity. Any person who serves as a lifeguard or has participated in some life-saving water activity may be nominated.
The winner crowned “Lifesaver of the Year” receives an all-expense paid trip for two to San Diego, California for the 11th Annual National Drowning Prevention Symposium from March 7-10, 2012. Hotel, airfare and conference fees are covered in the prize package.
The submission period began October 18 and was originally scheduled to close November 30; however, due to multiple requests from organizations seeking additional time to submit nominees the window has been extended.
NDPA and USA Swimming Foundation will select ten finalists, and voting opens to the public from January 4, 2012 for one month. The submission with the most votes will be pronounced the winner and awarded the 2011 Lifesaver of the Year Award at the National Drowning Prevention Symposium in March.
